A Message from our
President Genevieve Bohnak.
Welcome to our page and thank you for your interest in the Junior League of Akron!
The Junior League of Akron is planning to return to in-person engagement for the 2021-2022 League year if it remains safe and healthy for our members. We encourage all of our Actives, Sustainers and potential new members to participate how they feel the most comfortable and safe. The Board of Directors will continue to monitor and make changes as necessary for the health and safety of our members.
2020 had its challenges, but I am proud of how our members prevailed and continued to move forward with our mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities. This past year, the Junior League of Akron adopted a new focus project, and we are ecstatic to continue and enhance our partnership with The Feeding Hope Pantry. The Feeding Hope Pantry ministry provides distribution of groceries to members of the community who are income eligible to receive food assistance based upon current federal poverty guidelines.
Additionally, we had over 50 volunteer opportunities with our members giving more than 500 service hours to the community. We welcomed 8 new Provisionals and 2 transfer members, along with 184 sustainers continuing to support all aspects of the League.
While we didn’t spend as much time at the JLA headquarters as we usually do, our dedicated Seedings continue to keep our property stunning throughout all seasons. Lastly, we held our first ever virtual fundraiser, and it was our most successful Raise a Glass to date!
In 2023, the Junior League of Akron will celebrate its’ 100th anniversary. Looking back at the past century, the League has established so many valuable organizations and programs that are still vital today along with a long list of women who have made a profound impact in our community. As I reflect on the past, focus on the present and look to the future, I am honored to lead the next generation of women who will be making an impact and developing future leaders for the next 100 years. I invite you to join us as we embark on this new League year.
