Provisional Contract

Provisional Member Course Outline 2009-2010

The mission of the Junior League of Akron (JLA) is to empower women for positive change in our community. The JLA is part of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., which is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The purpose of this outline is to identify:

• The JLA’s expectations of you as a Provisional member
• What you, as a Provisional member, should expect from the JLA

Requirements of the Junior League of Akron to provide to the Provisional Members:

• Leadership training
• Opportunities to improve the community through volunteerism
• Access to resources
• Opportunities for social relations

Requirements for Provisional Membership:

1. Provisional Course Meetings
Provisional members of the JLA are required to attend at least 5 of 7 provisional course meetings, including the October Retreat. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the JLA Headquarters (929 West Market Street in Akron) and will follow the schedule below unless you are notified otherwise. Meetings are designed to educate provisional members about the League, introduce volunteer opportunities within the community and provide training.

• November 10, 2009 7 p.m.
• December 8, 2009 7 p.m.
• January 12, 2010 7 p.m.
• February 9, 2010 7 p.m.
• March 9, 2010 7 p.m.
• April 13, 2010 7 p.m.

2. General Membership Meetings
Provisional members are encouraged to attend all, but are required to attend at least three (see dates below) of the JLA’s General Membership Meetings (GMM). GMMs are held the third Tuesday of every month (except June, July and August) at the JLA Headquarters, 929 West Market Street in Akron, or at other locations if specified. We anticipate holding at least one GMM off-site this year.

• September 15, 2009
• October 20, 2009 – First required GMM: Attend either this or the Nov. 17 GMM
• November 17, 2009 – First required GMM: Attend either this or the Oct. 20 GMM
• January 19, 2010
• February 16, 2010
• March 16, 2010
• April 20, 2010 – Second required GMM for Provisionals
• May 18, 2010 — Annual Meeting – Third required GMM for Provisionals

3. Member Development Coordinator (MDC)
Each Provisional member will meet with the MDC at both the beginning and end of the year to discuss her goals and future committee placement.

4. Provisional Project
Provisional members are required to develop, participate in and support the 2009-2010 Provisional Class Project, which this year will support the AJLI’s “Kids in the Kitchen” initiative. This project may be worked on at the provisional course meetings, although additional meeting time may be required and should be expected.

5. Community Service
Every Provisional member will participate in at least:
• 2 hours or one shift of a community service (Done-In-A-Day, a.k.a. DIAD) activity AND
• 2 hours or one shift of a Focus Area Project activity (Adopt-a-High-Rise)

6. Course Dues

The JLA’s Provisional Course fee of $80.00 is due with the Provisional Contract. No portion of the Provisional Course fee is refundable at any time.

The Provisional course fee is due on or before October 17, 2009. For payment issues, please contact either Terri Nass Reeder, Treasurer, by e-mail at tntea55@aol.com or Kristi Fox, Assistant Treasurer, by e-mail at kvfox@sbcglobal.net, prior to the payment due date.

7. Failure to complete the Provisional Membership Training Course
Each Provisional member must complete the training portion of the Provisional Course within twelve (12) months of beginning the course (in this case, October 17, 2010). If a Provisional member has not completed the training within that time, she will no longer be considered a Provisional member of the JLA.

By signing this contract I acknowledge that:

1. I have received a copy of the Provisional Course Outline and will be responsible for meeting the requirements listed in it.

2. My progression to Active membership in the JLA will be dependent upon successful completion of the Provisional Course requirements as stated in this outline.

3. Upon my progression to Active membership status, I will be responsible for the financial requirements of Active membership including:
• Annual dues: Currently $120.00, due May 1 of each year for the year ahead.
• Fundraiser Obligation: Currently $125.00, due November 1 of each year.
• Any other financial obligation approved by the JLA’s membership.
