2011 Rookie of the Year Award
The Junior League of Akron created the Rookie of the Year Award to recognize a League member in her first Active year or in her Provisional year who has shown not only outstanding commitment to the League and to the community, but has demonstrated an immediate willingness to assume responsibility and take leadership in her service to both.
I am proud to announce that the eighth winner of this award is Lisa Knapp. As a first year active Lisa jumped into multiple roles with the League. She became an active and dedicated member of the Roadmap and Strategic Task Force teams, where she was receptive, provided input, and was eager to learn and share. As task force chair Jennie Highfield pointed out, “She is the model of the Junior League woman, working effortlessly all summer on the Strategic plan. She was always available and never missed a meeting.” Lisa also was a devoted and enthusiastic member of the Focus Project Research committee this year, serving as one of the subcommittee chairs researching focus projects at other leagues across the country. Focus Project Search chair Janis Worley shared that, “Lisa was key in helping to develop the project survey that was sent to the active membership, and reached out on several occasions to local organizations on behalf of the league to gather more information for our committee.” In addition to these two roles, Lisa was also an instrumental member of the Taste of the Tour Special Event committee for ShowHouse 2011. Jennifer Towell, Special Event co-chair commented, “I am a huge fan of Lisa Knapp. She has been very helpful, very responsive, and super positive in her position on this committee. Lisa even helped us secure a donation from Acme for our event!” The work and effort than Lisa has shown the League this year has been amazing, especially given that she holds a full time job as well as positions in several other volunteer organizations in town.
