THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF AKRON ANNOUNCES
RECIPIENT OF 2008 PRESIDENT’S AWARD.

The Junior League of Akron is proud to announce that the recipient of the 2007-2008 President’s award is Elizabeth Sheeler of Akron.  This highly prestigious award is given to the League member who has shown not only outstanding commitment to the League and to the community, but also has demonstrated a willingness to assume responsibility and take leadership in these roles.  This woman is both an exemplary volunteer and a leader; the best a Junior League member can be.

Elizabeth Sheeler became an Active member in 2000 and was chosen for displaying a commitment to both volunteerism and to the community.  Elizabeth has served the league in many capacities: on the 75th Anniversary Committee; the Symposium and Event Planning committees; chairing the JLA Yearbook and the Junior League’s Focus Project, Children Who Witness Violence; and Community VP and Membership VP.

To top Elizabeth’s work in the League, she has also brought her skills to the community with her involvement
with the Summa Junior Board of Akron City Hospital, Akron Round Table Board of Trustees, Akron
Children’s Hospital Women’s Board, Art Cetera President and Membership Chair, Akron Area Arts Alliance
Vice President and Nominating Committee member, and the Akron Art Museum Art Auction Co-Chair.

Elizabeth is a wonderful example of a League member that seeks to impact her community not only through
her League service, but directly with the community to effectuate positive change.  We are all proud of her accomplishments as a member of our League and we look forward to all of the great work in the community
she has yet to accomplish.

The Junior League of Akron is a nonprofit organization formed in 1926 that provides opportunities for women to gain valuable volunteer expertise as well as professional skills while working on vital community projects.  The Junior League of Akron empowers women for positive change in our community.  The Junior League of Akron is proud of the ventures its members have started or participated in including Junior Leadership Akron, Family TIES, The Volunteer Center, Child Guidance Centers, Akron Artfest, Immunization Coalition of Summit County, The Community Wish List, Oral Health Initiative, Health Education Center, Battered Women’s Shelter, Safe Landing Runaway Shelter, Guardian Ad Litem, and Mary Day Nursery (currently the Akron Children’s Hospital).
