THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF AKRON ANNOUNCES LOCATION OF DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE 2009.
The Junior League of Akron is proud to announce the location of Designer ShowHouse 2009! The M.A. Knight manor, located at 711 N. Portage Path in Akron, will be the site of this event in May, 2009. This stunning 8,000+ sq. foot home was once the residence of Maurice Knight, who was a leader in international manufacturing of acid-proof chemical stoneware and the son of Akron’s own Charles Knight, former head of the Chemistry Department at what is now The University of Akron.
The M.A. Knight manor features an American interpretation of an English country estate (free manorial) exterior façade with arts and crafts inspired interior detailing. It boasts a true estate feeling on six wooded acres. Not only will the public have a rare glimpse into a well preserved, one family occupied historic Akron home, attendees of Designer ShowHouse 2009 will also see the fabulous and creative talents of local interior designers. Each room in this historic three story mansion will be personally transformed by a local interior designer into a one-of-a-kind creation.
The Junior League of Akron is currently seeking interested Designers to participate in this event. For more information please contact The Junior League of Akron.
The public is invited to see the “before” version of this fascinating project by attending the Preview Open House on Oct. 24th from 6:30-8:30pm. Attendees will be able to browse the manor to see it in its original state while enjoying stylish desserts and coffee. Ticket prices for the Preview Open House are only $25 per person and can be purchased by calling the Junior League of Akron at 330.836.4905.
The Junior League of Akron Designer ShowHouse 2009 is a project in which many of Summit County’s foremost interior designers and landscapers will demonstrate their talents and unique ideas through the complete redecoration of this property and grounds. All proceeds from this fund-raiser will benefit the Junior League of Akron and the many valuable community projects it supports, such as the Adopt-A-High-Rise program with Mobile Meals.
Designer Showhouse 2009 will run from May 9-24, 2009 with a grand opening Gala on May 2. For more information on Designer ShowHouse 2009, The Junior League of Akron, or to purchase tickets to the Preview Open House please contact the League at 330.836.4905, jrleagueakron@sbcglobal.net, or visit our web site at www.JuniorLeagueAkron.org.
