A Message from our
President Genevieve Bohnak.
Welcome to our page and thank you for your interest in the Junior League of Akron!
As I reflect on the first year of my JLA presidency, I am full of pride for everything that our membership accomplished this past year. As variants of COVID – 19 (Delta, Omicron) weaved in and out, our membership prevailed to fulfill our mission.
Together, our active membership partnered with 17 community partners, donating over 600 hours of community service, and donating items valued at over $2,500 through our monthly donation drives. Our first in- person fundraiser since 2019 was held at 750ml Akron where our supporters “traveled” around the world, tasting red and white wine from the USA, France, Italy, and Australia. This event raised $12,000 and the League was delighted to donate half of the proceeds to our Focus Project partners – Feeding Hope Pantry and Blessings in a Backpack helping support our goal of alleviating food insecurity.
The AJLI Annual Conference took place in-person in Dallas, TX for the first time since 2019. It was an incredible experience to connect with women from various leagues around the USA and UK (and yes, I had a conversation about Kate Middleton with one of our newest AJLI board members from London). What was most exciting about this conference was a new mission statement was adopted.
Our new mission statement is now:
“The Association of Junior Leagues International is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.”
As we start this new league year, I am excited and enthusiastic our league will continue this momentum of meaningful community impact in the greater Akron community, exceeding our impact as we gradually return to normalcy.
